How Does Exercise Affect Sleep

Exercising as a part of your daily living is essential to great health and improves sleep quality. It is recommended that we exercise 3-4 times a week for about 45 minutes each time. You can get your exercise in so my ways. Taking a bike ride, brisk walking, yoga, aerobic/cardio classes, or going for a swim.  Your goal is to raise your heart rate and focus on your breathing.

It is known that getting regular physical activity can improve your quality of sleep and the duration in which you stay asleep. Getting exercise during the morning or early in the day is ideal because this can help to reset your sleep-wake cycle. It will raise your body temperature then allowing it to decrease and trigger the tiredness feeling hours later.

I suggest getting outdoor for your exercise if you can, absorb the Vitamin D from the sun and take in the invigorating energy.

Getting exercise also is a huge stress and anxiety reliever, think about it. How many nights do you spend up worrying about things, stressing about your next day and the days to come? When we are exercising I believe we are more in control of our thoughts and feelings.

If you can learn to control your thoughts when you are exercising from daily duties to being in the full moment, then you will learn to do this before going to bed. You will learn that when you can change your thought patterns.

You will be able to think of things before bed that put you in a peaceful state.

When it is time for bed all that should matter is allowing your mind and body to get the rest it needs to have a productive day tomorrow.

Timing your exercise is important for sleep. If you exercise too close to your bedtime it may be harder for you to fall asleep. When we exercise our bodies, we stimulate them by raising our energy levels. This isn’t always true for everyone but if late at night is the best time you have to exercise I suggest a nice long shower or a warm bath to calm your mind and body before bed.
